#PRIDEStrong

I don’t really know where to start; what to think, or what to say. The violent events that have transpired out of Orlando this past week have left me powerless, but most of all outraged. The flashing images of the aftermath were horrific and heartbreaking to watch. I am still trying to understand how a safe haven for the LGBTQ+ community turned into a warzone where people were fleeing to save their own lives.

What do we do in this situation, other than react? I can’t help but think that this could have happened to any of us - to our best friend, cousin, brother, sister, mother, father, etc. It scares me to think that danger is no longer an abstract concept, that anyone could be affected at any time. But then I realize that I cannot let someone else’s hate take over my reality. That is what acts of hate do – they makes you fearful of the unknown, fearful of what you have no control over.

I refuse to let fear disrupt the way I live my life, I refuse to let it silence or intimidate me. In a world of darkness, there is still so much love to give. Live your life full of love, and show them that hate will not win. Stay #PrideStrong.

xoxo
